Kindermusik classes start back up this week! The Village class will begin the semester with the unit "Cock-a-Doodle Moo." This farm themed unit has gotten me to researching picture books about farms that would appeal to very young children. Weston and I visited the Norman library, and a very helpful librarian gave us many suggestions. Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown is our favorite so far. There are lots of animals to imitate, pretty pictures to look at and discuss, and a nice poetic story with just a few words on each page. Perfect for us.
I just discovered this book today at the library. It is a wonderful resource for parents and early childhood teachers. It lists many books for babies and toddlers, and then goes on to give example activities from each book. The activities are suggestions on how to read the book, games to play with the story, actions to go with the rhymes, and more. The authors also offer insight as to how each activity helps your child develop their language skills and a love of reading. It is hard to describe, but definitely worth checking out!
